Why Vermont Slate:

• Vermont sits on a belt of metamorphic rock formed over 400 million years ago during the Taconic orogeny (mountain-building event).

• The mineral composition (mostly chlorite, mica, and quartz) and low impurity levels make Vermont slate extremely dense and fine-grained, which gives it superior strength and a smooth, even texture.

• Slate is a natural, quarried material, requiring minimal processing.

• Vermont quarries have longstanding sustainability and labor standards, which makes the material more ethically appealing compared to some imported slates.
