Mount St. Helens

Mount St. Helens | Christopher Lisle 2021

Spring on Mount St. Helens brings clear skies and easy touring access. Starting at an elevation of around 2,600ft we made it to this peak at around 6,040ft leaving us about 2,000ft vert from the summit. Most people hike to the summit and then return down the same route. It hadn’t snowed and had been warm and sunny the previous week. Snow was firmer than expected by noon so this steeper face seemed reasonable. Did another beacon check at the top – got into position to take some photos of the first rider to go down and then we triggered a substantial wet slide that ran about 700ft with a 20ft tall debris path. Be cautions on those steeper aspects.
