Mt. St. Helens

Mt. St. Helens – Christopher Lisle

Spent some time this summer exploring Mt. St. Helens (known as Lawetlat’la to the Indigenous Cowlitz people, and Loowit or Louwala-Clough to the Klickitat). The North side where the volcano exploded 30+ years ago is a unique look at the landscape slowly regenerating. The Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was established on August 27, 1982 by U.S. President Ronald Reagan following the 1980 eruption.[2] The 110,000 acre (445 km2) National Volcanic Monument was set aside for research, recreation, and education. Inside the Monument, the environment is left to respond naturally to the disturbance. (wiki)
